But the Real Question is, Why?
I call it having a “bee in my bonnet.†For the last week I’ve wanted to sew tiny monsters. Do I like to sew? No. Do I like monsters? Not really, I mean, they’re ok.
I’ve had tiny monsters in the back of my mind for a long time, but then I got this a few weeks back. And then I kept sketching them whenever I was drawing with the boys. And then I became compelled to make tiny monsters. I had to.
So last week mom and I went to the fabric store and I got a half yard each of many fleecie colors. I pulled out my sewing machine, roughly sketched out one of my new friends I had planned in crayon, and got to work.
It only took about an hour to make even though it took all day, thanks to a little thing we like to call life with kids. The boys like them ok. Tru got to design his own, so he really liked it, but really who needs these cluttering up our house?
Monsters-as-muse time is fleeting. I’m feeling the end of this phase is near. I’ve never liked mass producing anything. Back in my washing-my-hair-with-herbal-tea-while-living-in-a-cabin-in-the-woods days I made earrings. Trying to make enough pairs to supply a couple local shops was always difficult. You know, most earrings need to have a matching set. Boring.
Plus the sewing machine is taking up too much room on my dining room table.
I’m going to finish the cat/monster my niece designed, then I think it’s time for the bee to be released from my bonnet. There are too many other parts of my brain that need pollinating and very little time in which to do it.

Speakin’ my language…who wants to do the same thing over and over…that’s why I need a project to start and stop in a short period of time or else I get bored of it and it becomes a “to do”! I thought I was crazy for not taking on a hobby for life…but now I know it’s not just me!

The monsters are very cute!! I made a pair of flannel pj pants with my sewing machine ( which resides in my closet) I cut out 3 more pair…. they have yet to be made, I’m sure Dougs will still fit him, but the ones for Brad will now fit Ryan, and the ones for Ryan… I know a 1-1/2 year old that would like them!
( this was 5-1/2 years ago) I would like to make a couple pairs of earrings… I need to catch up on scrapbooking… hmmm guess I’ll clean the house and do laundry instead on my day off!

Those are so cute! Way better than the ones on the cover of the magazine! You are so talented. Can’t wait to see what bee gets in your bonnet next.

You can make me an earring: I don’t mind being mismatched.
Herbal tea? In the woods? Really? I think there’s some stories about your life that you need to catch me up on.
Monsters are cute - just like your boys.
